It’s been a busy week. I’m not sure where all the time goes. I get up every morning, I blink and twelve-thirteen hours have passed by. Add in a few moments of eating and about seven-eight hours of sleeping, and I rinse and repeat… It’s weird though, I get up early on workdays, but I get up even earlier on the weekends. I guess I cherish the time so much, I’ll sleep less on the weekends to have more leisure time. Either that or I’m sleeping too much during the week. I doubt that though.
I’ve put together some songs that help me get through the week. Spending two hours a day in a car, I can only handle so much NPR (and I love NPR), I’ve got to have something to just mellow out too. Traffic is a total bummer too, so it can’t be angry music. The music has got to be something I can lose my thoughts to without losing my mind completely. So here they are, I plan to post some more tomorrow.
I’ll start slow, work you into it. Admittedly, I’ve never heard the original by Brand New, but I’d wager this redo by The Burning Ear is better then the original.
We’ll keep that mellow vibe and continue on with some Cassette Culture. Which reminds me of some Daft Punk Legacy dank.
My first twist, The Go! Team. The Go! Team is funky all by itself, but then Star Slinger went and really went to town.
Usher? Check. Tokyo Police Club? Check. The Hood Internet? Oh yes, check. Absolutely nothing could be added or removed from this track. The Hood Internet never disappoints.
Speaking of never failing, The Glitch Mob, is another top producer. Again, nothing could be stripped from this. It’s like a bloody rare steak, any more processing and it’d be ruined. Any less cooking and you might as well eat it raw.
Then we got DMX + The XX, yet again by The Hood Internet. For whatever reason this reminds me of Apolo Onho and the 2010 Winter Olympics. And just like Apollo Ohno, this is an all gold performance. Genius
Speaking of The Hood Internet, we’ve got to The White Panda in here. Now they’ve got a ton of tracks that are some of my favorites mash-ups ever, but for whatever reason this song gets me pumped. But not too pumped to start crashing into stupid assholes driving 30mph in the left lane.
Appropriately, Klaxons with It’s Not Over Yet, unfortunately it is…
Enjoy and let me know your mellow tracks for traffic (in the comments below)!
